From the award-winning author, Robert I. Katz, comes a suspenseful, riveting tale of murder and revenge, THE ANATOMY LESSON (December 2004).

Richard Kurtz is a surgeon, a good surgeon, if he does say so himself (which he does). Kurtz has a job that he likes, a luxury apartment on the East Side of Manhattan and a beautiful girlfriend. Kurtz works more hours than he would prefer, but this, he has to admit, comes with the territory. Lew Barent is a cop. He has a job that he’s looking forward to leaving, a daughter he dotes on, a son-in-law he can barely stand, and recurrent migraines. Rod Mahoney is a professor of Anatomy at Staunton Medical College. Very little bothers Rod Mahoney. Having watched most of his squad die around him in the jungles of Southeast Asia, Mahoney is happy simply to be alive.

Kurtz and Mahoney are old friends. They play chess together now and then, reminisce about their time in the army and drink beer…until Rod Mahoney’s dismembered body is found one day in his office, and Kurtz and Barent find themselves suddenly investigating a twisted tale of bitter regret and ancient revenge.
