Willowgate Press - More About Us

Willowgate is a small, independent press established for the purpose of publishing good writing of the sort that the public is currently not receiving. Fundamentally, we seek to provide quality book length fiction in all categories, and to see our titles widely promoted and kept available for longer than the brief shelf life allowed by the traditional houses. We believe that there is a need for a press whose goal is to publish quality works by new and established writers, without regard for the "blockbuster" mentality that presently prevents more established houses from taking on such projects.

The founders of Willowgate Press have a passion for literature and faith in the judgment of the reading public. We believe that a much wider range of fiction than is currently available should be made accessible. While we do not deny that we, like all other publishers, are motivated and to some extent controlled by economic factors, we also feel that we can serve a beneficial function that larger, traditional houses are not providing.

Our books will be, for the most part, 5.5" by 8.5" quality paperbacks, with heavy softcovers illustrated with "four color" printing. We will not distinguish between published and unpublished authors, but will judge every work on its merit and commercial viability. We will focus entirely on book length fiction in every category. We are not a vanity or subsidy press. We will charge no reading or critiquing fees. Editorial services will only be rendered if a book is chosen for publication. If we elect not to use submitted material, it will be returned without comment (see our Submission Guidelines).

If a manuscript is accepted for publication, we will make every effort to avoid lengthy delays in bringing the product to market. The writer will be given a voice in all aspects of publishing, promotion, advertising and marketing, including cover art, copy, promotional forums, etc. The writer will be expected to be an active and enthusiastic participant in all stages of the publication process.

We are excited and energized by the commencement of this enterprise. We hope to attract the finest writers of contemporary fiction and to help generate similar enthusiasm in them and in their readers.
